I am very glad for awareness programs such as World Oral Health Day to be celebrated properly across Pakistan as we have a dire need for education and mindfulness regarding importance of oral health in our nation.
People in Pakistan often overlook or ignore their oral diseases, and tooth decay, or they do not understand how serious these issues are. Furthermore, they are engrossed in extremely unhealthy habits such as regular consumption of gutka and chhalia, chewing tobacco and smoking, which are a one-way ticket to oral cancer.
Apart from the more serious consequences of poor oral health such as tooth loss and oral cancer, even on a daily basis, issues like halitosis, toothache, tooth sensitivity, discolored and rotting teeth, painful ulcers in the mouth, and repeated throat infections can all be easily avoided only if people maintained proper oral hygiene regularly and visited the dentist at least once a month.
The aim of World Oral Health Day, which will be instituted by every healthcare professional of the nation, is to instill in people’s minds the message that oral health is as significant as general physical health, and it is something precious that needs to be cared for by visiting the dentist and implementing good oral hygiene. If people start to Live Mouth Smart, as the slogan says, they will find themselves looking better, feeling better, and even have a prolonged lifespan.
So let’s work together to bring people closer to this goal on WOHD 2017.
