Every country including Pakistan understands the importance of the good oral hygiene routines from an early age that must continue through life to help prevent long-term health issues. It is well known that that good oral health goes beyond a healthy smile. Having seen the evidence for the relationship of major fatal systemic diseases with poor oral health, one can clearly see that good oral health has wider implications for overall health. Our collective aim should be helping people improve their oral healthcare. By adopting various themes, the organizers of the Oral Health Day, each year has provided a great platform to communicate the importance of oral health to the public at large. Promoting oral health will remain a main continuing challenge in the event of poor oral hygiene continuing as a global issue with up to 90% schoolchildren and almost 100% adults having tooth decay.
All of us here at the PDC are committed to our continued missions, firstly by facilitating the provision of ethical, knowledgeable and skilled dental manpower to help the public achieve this sacred goal of improved oral health of the community and secondly; as there is tremendous need for the many to treat their existing dental ailments, we have ensured a state of art dental care services at the tertiary care dental teaching hospital attached to our dental college within the premises of the PRIME Teaching Hospital in Peshawar.
I am sure that this year’s World Oral Health Day campaign with the slogan of ‘Live Mouth Smart’ will empower people to take control of their oral health – throughout life – so they can enjoy a healthy, functional mouth from childhood into old age. The slogan of “Live Mouth smart” has a very broad and deep message to convey for preventing oral disease and that implementing smart decisions such as adopting good oral hygiene habits, avoiding risk factors and having regular dental check-ups.
Let’s all get involved and help our people Live Mouth Smart.
